Data Storage
32 viewsData Security & The Silo Architecture
At Battalion OS, we believe that department data shouldn't be treated like a public utility. In the fire service, operational security and data integrity are as vital as the gear on the truck. That is why we developed our unique Silo Architecture.
The Problem with "Big Data"
Most fire service software uses a "Multi-tenant" approach. This means thousands of departments are dumped into one massive database. While this is cheaper for the software company, it creates two major risks for you:
- Massive Breach Surface: If the main database is hacked, every department’s data is exposed at once.
- Legal Entanglement: If the software provider is subpoenaed for another department's records, your data is sitting in the same "bucket," creating a potential for privacy "bleed."
The Battalion OS Solution: Isolated Silos
Drawing from military-grade data isolation standards, we don't store your data in a giant bucket. Instead, we build a Silo.
- Isolated Storage: Each department operates in its own independent data environment. Your truck checks, drug logs, and personnel records are physically and logically separated from everyone else's.
- Path Isolation Security: Your data is stored in a directory physically separated from the internet. By keeping the Silos outside of the
public_htmlfolder, we ensure there is no direct URL path to your records. This architecture makes it virtually impossible for a hacker to gain access via standard web-based attacks. - Privacy Wall: Because your data is siloed, it is virtually impossible for a breach in one area to affect another. Your department’s integrity is "walled off."
- Real-Time Performance: Standard databases slow down as more users join. Because our Silos are lean and isolated, your truck checks remain lightning-fast, even during the busiest morning shift changes.
Accountability You Can Trust
Inside your Silo, every action is logged with a permanent audit trail.
- Signature Tracking: Every line item in a truck check is stamped with the user’s ID and a timestamp.
- Encrypted Backups: Regular backups are performed within your specific silo, ensuring that recovery is precise and secure.
Our Commitment
We don't "mine" your data for marketing, and we don't group you in with the masses. You serve your community; we secure your data.
