Battalion OS is proud to serve municipal fire departments and government entities. We understand that most of our clients are tax-exempt organizations. To ensure your account is billed correctly and no sales tax is applied to your silos or upgrades, please follow the verification process below.
How to Apply for Tax-Exempt Status
By default, all new accounts are subject to state and local sales tax based on your location. To remove these taxes, you must provide a valid Sales Tax Exemption Certificate.
- Register Your Account: If you haven't already, sign up here
- Open a Support Ticket: Go to the our support center and create a new ticket.
- Select Category: Choose "Billing" from the dropdown menu.
- Attach Documentation: Upload a PDF or high-quality image of your state’s official exemption form (e.g., Ohio Form ST-3).
- Review: Our billing team will verify your certificate typically within 24-72 business hours. Once verified, we will toggle the "Tax Exempt" status on your profile.
Required Documentation
For an exemption to be valid under state law (specifically in Ohio), your certificate must be fully completed and include:
- Entity Name: Must match the name on your Battalion OS account.
- Tax ID / EIN: Your federal or state employer identification number.
- Reason for Exemption: Typically "Government Entity" or "Political Subdivision."
- Authorized Signature: The document must be signed and dated by a department official.
Note for Ohio Departments: Ohio does not issue "Exemption Numbers." You must provide the ST-3 Certificate of Exemption. A vendor's license number is not a valid substitute for an exemption certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a refund for tax already paid? If you were charged tax on a previous invoice before your exemption was verified, please contact us. We can issue a Credit Note to your account balance once your certificate is approved.
Does my exemption expire? Most government "Blanket Certificates" do not expire as long as the legal status of the department remains the same. However, if your department changes its name or address, a new certificate will be required.
Why am I seeing tax on my invoice? If you have not yet completed the verification process, or if your certificate on file has been marked as invalid/incomplete, the system will automatically apply the local sales tax rate (e.g., 6.75% for Wood County, OH).
